We tried kale last night. My son is very interested in farming and growing our own food and kale is one of the things we'd like to try. So, before we devote garden space to it, I thought we should try it. I bought a "bunch" or "bundle" or whatever you call it, at the grocery store and prepared it Friday night. I gathered fresh onions and herbs from our garden and chopped them up. To a big pot, I added olive oil and sauteed the onions and herbs. Then, I put in the kale and cooked until it was bright green and tender.
It was delicious.
What's on the menu at your place?
I don't really enjoy the taste of kale but my 2-year-old does! I cook, drain, chop (in a food processor) and freeze kale in ice cube trays, then add some to a batch of oatmeal for her. I also add natural applesauce and cinnamon for a bit of flavor. This is the ONLY way she'll eat oatmeal!!
ReplyDeleteKale has more nutrients than spinach in it, so every day I know that she's gotten breakfast with whole grains, green veggies and fruit, even if she eats horribly the rest of the day. =)
Frozen kale lasts up to a year in the freezer!
We've never tried kale. Just working on getting my order for seeds, might have to grow some!
ReplyDeleteKale is good in soup too. Add during the last 5-10 minutes of cooking!
ReplyDeleteKale is delicious! Try it with spaghetti noodles and some garlic.
ReplyDeleteI love Kale but can't get the husband to eat it. I've added it to chili and baked ziti. (I've also used it in a bridal bouquette!)
ReplyDeleteI've heard Kale is quite good, but I'm afraid to try it. Mostly because I'm not fantastic at cooking vegetables and would probably ruin it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the cook in our house but that looks a little TOO leafy even for me!
